The list of reasons to use Badger Wood oil is long.

Our Badger Wood Oil is made from from 100% pure Canadian hempseed oil which contains antimicrobial and anti-fungal properties that are naturally resistant to mould and mildew..

Badger Wood Oil is a deep penetrating, breathable oil that has been put through an oxidization process that allows it to harden when cured. It is environmentally friendly with no added chemicals or solvents, and dries without any harsh fumes or harmful vapours, providing a protective, water-resistant surface. Historically, hempseed oil was the finishing oil of choice for the paint industry (before prohibition).

Badger Wood Oil is GMO-free and organic as the hempseed is grown without the use of any pesticides. And because hemp is a deep rooting plant, it actually helps regenerate and improve the quality of surrounding soil and crops by pulling nutrients from below and returning them back to the soil.

Badger Wood Oil is non-toxic and food-safe. That doesn’t mean you would want to use it on your salad like it’s freshly pressed hempseed oil. But it does mean you can use Badger Wood Oil oil on food-contact items like wooden cutting boards, butcher blocks, etc.

It also means you can use Badger Wood Oil on your wooden paddles, canoe gunwales/gunnels, thwarts, etc., without the worry of harming the environment, the health & safety of your family, or the lakes you paddle in.  With both interior and exterior applications, our Badger Wood Oil has also been used to finish wooden handled knives, axes, furniture, floors, decks, and more!

Instructions for oiling your canoe paddle:

  • First prepare the wood by making sure it is clean & dry.
  • Sand where necessary & ensure the surface is free of loose particles & dust.
  • Apply oil with a clean rag*.
  • Use a fine sandpaper to “wet sand” using the oil for lubrication.
  • Let stand for a few minutes to allow oil to penetrate.
  • Wipe away excess Badger Oil, if any, with a clean rag then leave to dry for 12 hours.

*For larger applications, a brush, roller, or sprayer could be used.

Repeat if necessary. Number of coats determined by desired results, amount of use, and exposure to the elements. We recommend a minimum of 4 coats on bare wood. Drying time is approximately 24 to 36 hours. Please allow 24 hours between coats. Approximate coverage:3 square meters per litre. Provides a water resistant coating. Safe for food contact times.
