Honestly, when we saw the results of the online random name picker, it wasn’t really a big surprise that Paula Hilborn of @justforjoyphotography came up as our first place winner for this summer’s #morethanapaddle photo contest. With Paula’s multiple entries across Instagram and Facebook, she definitely upped her odds of winning by flooding us with some pretty novel ideas on the various uses of canoe paddles. Well done, Paula!

So a big Badger congrats and paddles up to Paula Hilborn! Paula has won our 1st place prize of a beautiful custom cherry Forest Edition canoe paddle and gets to plant one tree!

Another big paddles up and congrats goes to the very resourceful Jessica Nicole who entered via Facebook and used her canoe paddle as a surface to fillet some fresh caught fish.

As one of our second place prize winners, Jessica will get to plant a tree and will receive some Badger Swag, plus a 1/2 pint tin of Badger Wood Oil (see all contest prizes below)!

The Backstory

This year we were thrilled to launch our new line of Forest Edition canoe paddles. There are a few factors that sets these paddles apart from our customary offerings.

Firstly, we carefully select only the blanks with the most interesting and unique grain patterns for these special edition canoe paddles.

Also, every Forest Edition paddle includes a distinctive laser engraving of an artistic “paddle tree” that matches the paddle style and species of tree the paddle was built from.

All Forest Edition canoe paddles by Badger are given our renowned oil finish and, of course, include a Badger Paddle Sock.

But finally, and most importantly, for every Forest Edition canoe paddle purchased, Badger will plant one tree!

Summer Photo Challenge

WIN A CHERRY FOREST EDITION CANOE PADDLE

Have you ever used your canoe paddle blade as a flat surface to fillet a fish on shore? How about as a support for a tarp or fly? Or maybe you’ve incorporated a couple of paddles into a sail or lashed onto your canoe as a makeshift yoke? Perhaps you have even used your paddle to fashion yourself an impromptu air guitar…

If you have used your Badger canoe paddle as a substitute or temporary solution for a problem and then went back to using the paddle again as intended, then this contest is for you!

Starting June 21, 2022, we challenge those who dig the water to show the world all the different and creative uses for canoe paddles (besides the obvious application of paddling, of course!).

Post your photos of your Badger canoe paddles in (unusual) action and you could win a beautiful cherry Forest Edition canoe paddle – and plant a tree!

Your Contest Photo Entry must also comply with the following specifications:

• be your original creation, and be a photograph taken solely by you. Reproducing, modifying, enhancing or altering a third party’s pre-existing work does not qualify as your original creation;
• not violate the rights of any third party, including, but not limited to copyright. For example, your Contest Photo must not defame, infringe or violate publicity or privacy rights of any person, living or deceased, or otherwise infringe upon any person’s, entity’s or organization’s personal or proprietary rights, including but not limited to, intellectual property rights. For greater certainty, your Contest Photo must not contain trademarks, logos, or trade dress owned by anyone other than Badger Paddles, or advertise or promote any brand or product of any kind, without express, written, prior permission of the trademark or brand owner;
• be in “good taste” and in keeping with Badger’s brand image and must not be explicit, offensive, obscene, or profane, and must not be derogatory toward any ethnicity, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, profession, or age group, or promote any activities that may be unsafe or dangerous, as determined by Badger Paddles, in its sole and absolute discretion;
• not contain any commercial content that promotes any product or service;

General Contest Rules

• Contest starts Tuesday June 21, 2022 at 12:00 a.m. EDT and closes Wednesday August 31, 2022 at 11:59 p.m EDT. Winners will be announced on or before end of day Friday September 9, 2022.
• The Contest is open to all residents of Canada (excluding Quebec) and the continental U.S. who have reached the age of majority in their province, state, or territory of residence at the time of entry.
• No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited. Note: Those who do not own a Badger canoe paddle may borrow one from a friend or acquaintance for the purposes of this contest.
• In the case where multiple paddles are being utilized in one photo, at least one of the canoe paddles featured must be a Badger canoe paddle to be qualified as an entry into this contest. Badger demo paddles and seconds (marked with an upside down Badger paw logo), past Paddle in the Park Contest canoe paddles and Paddle In The Park Contest #PaddlePoints photos will be allowed.
• Using the entry criteria outlined above, enter as many times as you would like utilizing the different social media mediums Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or direct by email. To help ensure your entry is accepted, you must follow all the terms and conditions of the service agreements implemented across the various social media platforms.
• We already said it a few different ways but we just want to be clear – any violent or sexual explicit photos or content will result in automatic disqualification from this contest and will be reported accordingly.
• There will be only one (1) first prize winner, and just two (2) individual second prize winners announced. Prizes may not be exactly as shown. Contest prizes are subject to substitution and cannot be redeemed for cash.
• First Prize Winner will receive one (1) cherry Forest Edition Canoe Paddle + shipping. One tree will be planted for the first prize winner. See above for full prize description.
• Second Prize Winners will each receive a 1/2 Pint of Badger Wood Oil, a Badger Decal Package (Badger Decal, Heart of a Backcountry Paddler – Full, Man Decal, Heart of a Backcountry Paddler – Full, Woman), a lil’Badger Paddle Forest Edition Keychain  + shipping. One tree will be planted for each of the two second prize winners. See above for full prize descriptions.
• All winners will be chosen by random.
• Winners will be asked to provide their shipping information if they are not able to collect their prize in person. Any information collected will only be used for the purposes of this contest. Badger does not and will not collect and sell your personal information.
• Prizes will be shipped to the winners or made available for pick up at a mutually agreed upon location.
• Any and all entries may be shared online, posted, reposted, tweeted,  retweeted, or uploaded by any or all of the Badger Paddles social media accounts for purpose of sharing content and to promote this contest.
• Contest winners will be contacted via the platform they were randomly chosen from. Winner’s first and last names may be published. All winners will be announced on all social media platforms utilized by Badger Paddles for the purposes of this contest.
• Contest winners may be required to answer a skill testing question.
• Any and all legal grievances arising from this contest will be settled within the legal system of Ontario, Canada. Contest terms may change without notice.
• Badger Paddles is not responsible for damaged, lost, or stolen contest items. Badger Paddles is also not responsible or liable for any theft, damages, loss of property, or personal injury of any entrants that may result in their partaking of this contest.
