``There is magic in the feel of a paddle and the movement of a canoe, a magic compounded of distance, adventure, solitude, and peace. The way of a canoe is the way of the wilderness and of a freedom almost forgotten. It is an antidote to insecurity, the open door to waterways of ages past and a way of life with profound and abiding satisfactions. When a man is part of his canoe, he is part of all that canoes have ever known.`` ~ Sigurd F. Olson
Badger® Paddles creates made-to-order premium solid wood canoe paddles in Muskoka, ON. Badger is a cottage-industry business owned and operated by partners Mike and Fiona, a husband and wife team.
Named in honour of Fiona’s Great Grandfather’s wood finishing business, Badger & Son, Mike and Fiona still use many of the same recipes and methods that Fiona’s Great Grandfather Sidney Badger used in the 1940’s.
Badger makes traditional canoe paddles from Cherry, Ash, Walnut and other specialty woods and offers customization and unique finishes such as Watercolours™ and our hand-rubbed oil and varnish combination finishes. Additionally, we are the distributors of the Badger Paddle Sock and Badger Wood Oil as well as co-creators of the Paddle In The Park Contest.
At Badger, we believe in the importance of spending time in nature and the wilderness. The canoe is what connects you to the wilderness by way of lakes and rivers and your paddle is the link between you, the water, and the canoe. A well balanced, handcrafted Badger canoe paddle only heightens that interconnection and brings you closer to nature and tradition.
